Eco certificate

The ECO Institute, Cologne, has been involved in pollutant analysis of building materials, furniture and mattresses since the 1980s. At the beginning of the 1990s, Frank Kübart from the ECO Institute and Dietmar Wagner from Futonwerk (form in form at the time) met at the 1st Organic Cotton Conference in Cairo and decided to create an association for the sensible testing of natural mattresses, which resulted in QuL (environmentally friendly quality association) in 1995 latex mattresses). The basic approach was to set sufficiently strong test criteria that – beyond the usual, state-issued wishy-washy tests – distinguish products that we would buy ourselves. Since then, the ECO Institute has been testing all of our futons for around 240 pollutants according to these same criteria, with the strictest test parameters. DX Futon was the first product line to receive the new certificate. Since 2010 we have been carrying out regular certification directly under the seal of the ECO Institute, the current copy of which is here or on the ECO Institute website.

Alpenland-QualityIn the 2000s we created the label Alpenland-Quality for virgin wool. The reports of horrific animal husbandry on gigantic sheep farms overseas were increasing and we wanted to set an example that made clear the good, clean origin of our new wool. Since 1989 we have been buying our new wool from Austria, where it is produced by small sheep cooperatives. Shepherds who move from meadow to meadow with small flocks and shear their mostly Merino sheep once in the spring, as has been done since time immemorial.
In 2020, PleinAir wool from central France was added, The most noble new wool at the moment because it is the strongest and most dimensionally stable, due to the sheep's permanent outdoor life. According to chemistry, the purity of our will corresponds. Analysis of organic wool from controlled organic animal husbandry.

Organic and Vegan

We have been producing our futons from the DX collection almost unchanged since 1988 because they are simply good. Of course, you can also order these futons with organic cotton inside; the cover is always organic quality. This also applies to the Shiatsu futons. All of our futons are also available in a vegan version, which you can also do with just one click. Then we exchange – at no extra charge – virgin wool for cotton and horsehair for coconut fiber. This is essential for real vegans, but the original quality suffers due to the absence of the good Merino wool, which keeps the futon hygienic and the elasticity high. To compensate, vegan futons should be given particularly good ventilation and occasional sunbathing to prevent bacterial wear and tear caused by UV rays.
